China ISBN for Imported Games
Much have been discussed regarding applying for ISBN for foreign games in China. While there are many nuances regarding ISBN application, here’s the summary which is applicable to most international developers:
– All games (mobile, PC, console) needs a license (ISBN) to operate in China if it has IAP or premium content. Average time of application for an imported game is 12-24 months
– The most straightforward way is to find a publisher that will apply for the ISBN and publish your game in the China market. The ISBN will be under publisher’s name as only Chinese entities are allowed to hold the ISBNs
And that’s pretty much it. I’ve compiled a list of ISBNs issued since March 2020 (imported games, mobile) and will update the list (backdate into 2019 and monthly updates). You can search the list with game title, china publisher name, game home country, etc
